Umno’s decision to withdraw support for PM extremely disappointing, says Rina

KUALA LUMPUR: Umno’s decision to withdraw support for Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, in this challenging time when to curb the Covid-19 pandemic, is extremely disappointing, says Datuk Seri Rina Harun.

The Women, Family and Community Development Minister said the government is also facing many other situations such as children being abused and (making sure) that everyone gets vaccinated.

“So this (Umno withdrawing support for PM) is very disappointing,” she told the media at a recent event.

Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia Srikandi chief Rina said since the pandemic started last year, the government has introduced eight aid packages totalling RM380 billion to help the people and businesses to cushion the effects of the pandemic.

“I personally go to the ground everyday distributing food baskets and aid to the needy.

“We are doing our best but it is sad that some have decided to politicise the whole situation,” she said.

Rina has also pledged to continue supporting Muhyiddin as Prime Minister.

Umno president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi had announced Umno’s withdrawal of support for Muhyiddin.

He said the Umno Supreme Council decided to severe ties with Bersatu for not fulfilling seven requirements as outlined by Umno when the government was sworn in on March 11 last year.

The announcement came a few hours after the appointment of Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob as Deputy Prime Minister and Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein as Senior Foreign Minister and would head the security cluster which was previously held by Ismail Sabri.

In another development, Ismail Sabri thanked the Prime Minister for his appointment and pledged to carry out his new responsibilities to the best of his ability.

He said only through unity and strong cooperation from all parties can the country come out of the Covid-19 crisis.

“Whatever post that is entrusted to me, my position remains the same, which is only to serve the people and the country sincerely,” he said in a Facebook post.
