Tengku Zafrul invites opposition parties to join MPN

SHAH ALAM: The National Rehabilitation Council or Majlis Pemulihan Nasional (MPN) has agreed to invite opposition parties namely Pakatan Harapan (PH), Warisan Sabah (Warisan) and Pejuang Tanah Air (Pejuang) as well as representatives from the Sabah and Sarawak state governments as its members.

The Coordinating Minister of the National Recovery Plan (PPN), Senator Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz said, it is in line with the PPN approach which is based on the principles of collaborative, inclusive and ‘whole-of-nation’.

“MPN also welcomes the willingness and involvement of experts from various industries, the private sector and non-governmental organizations (NGOs), as well as economic, social and health experts who have agreed to share their expertise and experience,” he said in a statement on Friday.

Commenting further, Tengku Zafrul who is also the Finance Minister said, the membership of opposition party representatives, figures and experts from various sectors will further strengthen the membership of the MPN as well as the implementation of PPN which is dynamic.

“Therefore, MPN hopes that this diversity of opinions and expertise can contribute to the empowerment of the health sector, increased vaccination efforts as well as the coordination, implementation and effectiveness of standard operating procedures (SOP) as well as government support and assistance during the recovery period,” he said.

The first MPN meeting was chaired by the Prime Minister, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin together with the Deputy Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob and several other ministers.

Among them are Senior Minister of International Trade and Industry (MITI), Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali; Senior Minister of Works, Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof; Senior Minister of Education, Senator Datuk Dr Mohd Radzi Md Jidin; Senior Minister of Foreign Affairs, Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein; Minister of Health, Datuk Seri Dr Adham Baba; Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation, Khairy Jamaluddin Abu Bakar and Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Economic Affairs), Datuk Seri Mustapha Mohamed.

Also present were the Chief Secretary to the Government, Datuk Seri Mohd Zuki Ali, the Director General of Health, Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah and the Director General of National Security, Datuk Rodzi Md Saad.
