The Ministry of Education (MOE) has decided to close the operation of primary and secondary schools nationwide after the Hari Raya Aidilfitri holiday which begins on May 16.
Senior Minister of Education, Datuk Dr. Radzi Jidin said, the MOE’s decision to close schools after Raya is to take into account the trend of Covid-19 infection in the community at this time.
“Looking at the sporadic cases in the community and other clusters that are not related to the education cluster, we are worried that there will be an infection outside the school before it infects the students and causes the infection in the school.”
“The MOE’s concern certainly involves students in full boarding schools and day boarding schools because if there is an outbreak in dormitories, the chances of infection are higher than in regular schools,” he said.
During the school closure period, students will follow home teaching and learning (PdPR) for 10 days starting from May 16 to May 27 involving schools in Group A (Johor, Kedah, Kelantan and Terengganu) while May 17 to May 28 (Group B).
Students will continue their term leave from May 28 to June 12 (Group A) and May 29 to June 13 (Group B).
