MPs, officials tested positive for Covid-19 ahead of Special Sitting

KUALA LUMPUR: A total of 35 individuals among Members of Parliament (MPs) and their officials have been tested positive for Covid-19.

This development is a major surprise, coming ahead of the opening day of the Special Session of Parliament, this Monday.

Utusan Online reported that among the MPs infected with the virus are: MP for Bagan Datuk, Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi; Tan Sri Annuar Musa (Ketereh) and Nik Mohamad Abduh Nik Abdul Aziz (Bachok).

At the same time, a source told Utusan Malaysia, there are other MPs who have close contact with them and are now believed to have undertaken smear tests.

“Also involved is the Deputy Speaker of the Dewan Rakyat, Datuk Mohd Rashid Hasnon because his escort officer is positive,” a source told the national media outlet when contacted.

The five-day Special Meeting of the Third Term of the 14th Parliament will begin on Monday, July 26 until July 29 and August 2, 2021 for the Dewan Rakyat.
