Mohamad replaces Tajuddin as Umno’s Election Director

Beleaguered Pasir Salak Umno Chief Datuk Seri Tajuddin Abdul Rahman has been sacked as the party’s election director effective immediately.

Umno president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi announced the sacking of Datuk Seri Tajuddin Abdul Rahman as the party’s election director, after the latter’s criticism during the Supreme Council meeting last Wednesday.

The announcement of the dismissal was made through a media statement by Ahmad Zahid and the vacancy will be replaced by Umno Deputy President, Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan.

“Umno Deputy President, YB Dato’ Seri Utama Haji Mohamad Hasan who is currently serving as the Chairman of the Barisan Nasional and Umno War Room, I hereby entrust him as the Umno Malaysia Election Director with immediate effect.

“The restructuring of the Umno Election Department is to strengthen the organization at every level of the party and the grassroots,” the statement said.

Ahmad Zahid explained that the decision will make it easier for the party’s decision making for the coming election.

“With Mohamad Hasan’s position as Barisan Nasional Deputy Chairman, it will facilitate the decision-making process in the matter of election preparations involving all Barisan Nasional component parties,” the statement said.

Earlier, Tajuddin was reported to have condemned the Umno Supreme Council (MT) when he used the term ‘pirah’ which could be loosely translated as ‘I can’t be bothered’ when speaking at a virtual meeting last week.

His speech was spread through an audio clip that appeared on social media and was also shared by former Barisan Nasional Secretary-General, Tan Sri Annuar Musa on his Twitter yesterday.

Tajuddin also acknowledged the authenticity of the audio clip.

In the audio clip, the Pasir Salak Member of Parliament objected to the MT’s move to withdraw support for Prime Minister (PM) Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin because he said it was not the decision of the last Umno General Assembly (PAU).

In fact, he noted that the MT members had been urged to agree for Umno to withdraw support for the Prime Minister.

Ahmad Zahid thanked Tajuddin for his services that lasted seven months but did not provide a reason for his removal.

Tajuddin was appointed Umno election chief on Nov 4 last year

His position as the Prasarana Chairman was also terminated on May 26 after a series of controversial statements following the collision of two Light Transit Train carriages.
