One of the most famous people in Malaysian sports history will soon have her very own biopic.
Datuk Nicol David made the announcement on her official Twitter last page last night and received many ‘likes’ in response.
“So happy to announce that we will be making my biopic movie. It’s a dream come true to be able to share my story and hopefully inspire all,” she tweeted.
The biopic, entitled “I Am Nicol David”, will be developed and produced by ACE Pictures Entertainment, a subsidiary of ACE Holdings Berhad.
According to Peter Wong, President of ACE Pictures, “Hearing Nicol speak about her life story gave us a completely different view into the sacrifices that had to be done in order to achieve her remarkable level of success. While we believe many are willing to go beyond the ordinary for their careers as a pro athlete, the love and dedication Nicol has for the sport exceeds normal understanding. This (biopic) will be about a woman’s will and dedication so profound, it becomes life itself, and the complex struggles one has to face when confronted with the reality of having to let go of something so deeply a part of herself.”
With seven Asian Games gold medals, 81 Professional Squash Association (PSA) World Tour titles, and being proclaimed as the World Games Greatest Athlete of All Time (2021), Datuk Nicol David is undoubtedly one of the most decorated sportswomen.
Details of the biopic are scant. It will be produced in English, with a Hollywood actress cast as Nicol’s coach, Australia Liz Irving.
