If the Movement Control Order (MCO) is not implemented immediately, the number of COVID-19 cases could increase to 10,000 cases a day after the Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebration.
Senior Minister (Security), Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said currently, the daily case projection was based on observations made on the capacity of hospitals nationwide.
“Hospital is getting full, the intensive care unit (ICU) is also almost used up. In Kelantan, we have to open a temporary hospital because there are not enough beds.”
“Private hospitals that is in cooperation with the government have also almost run out of beds,” he said after attending the Iftar Ceremony with Tahfiz School Students and the Malaysian Armed Forces Orphanage (STAY ATM) at the Sungai Besi Premier Camp.
Ministry of Health (MOH) estimated that the daily positive cases of COVID-19 could increase to 5,000 and continue to jump to 10,000 cases as happened in India.
“If there are 10,000 cases a day, we might be like India. We don’t want to see people dying and so on”
“it possible that post election cases could increase to 5,000. This situation can occur if there is no intervention and standard operating procedures (SOPs) are no longer followed by the people” Sabri said.
Despite realizing people’s anger when the MCO had to be re -enforced, Sabri said it was the best intervention to protect lives.
