KUALA LUMPUR: Selangor state government has allocated 2 million vaccines for 1 million workers, including the foreign workers, under the Selangor Vaccination Programme (SelVAX).
This programme is open only to companies or factories which are willing to cover the cost to vaccinate their employees of RM350 for the two doses per person, SelVAX said in a statement on Monday.
According to SelVAX, priority will be given to companies registered or operating in Selangor and the Klang Valley, particularly those with a large number of employees.
Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari had said in a press conference last week, 80 per cent of the total number of clusters in Selangor came from factories and 11 per cent from construction sites. Based on this development, the state government will give priority to factory workers.
Amirudin added the state government has allocated over RM237 million for this programme and made bookings for 2.5 million doses directly in order to vaccinate 1.25 million people. Selangor also expects to inoculate over 250,000 Selangor residents under SelVAX Community, especially for those who haven’t received their vaccine.
This initiative has been taken by the state government to help expedite the current vaccination process and achieve herd immunity in the state by October this year. Among the targeted recipients are senior citizens and the B40 community, beside factory workers.
Tropicana Gardens Mall Convention Centre in Kota Damansara will be one of the five vaccination centres (PPV) to host the vaccination programme starting from last week.
Tropicana Corporation Bhd, in a statement, pledged its support for SelVAX and the National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme. Its group managing director Dion Tan said the Government’s focus to accelerate the national vaccination programme is very much needed to ensure all citizens regardless of background receive their Covid-19 vaccine shots as soon as possible.
All Tropicana workforce including Tropicana Gardens Mall, Tropicana Golf & Clubhouse and the W KL Hotel that have not been vaccinated would be signed up for this programme, he said.
Currently, registration is open to all companies in Selangor and they can register their employees online here: (vax.selangkah.my
