Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim was called to Bukit Aman Classified Criminal Investigation Unit (USJT) office after he received an order from the public prosecutor to investigate in accordance with the provisions of Section 108 (2) of the Criminal Procedure Code.
Police confirmed taking a statement from the Opposition leader regarding the audio recording which allegedly showed a conversation between him and UMNO President Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.
“Investigations are conducted in accordance with Section 505 (b) of the Penal Code which is a statement causing or may cause public intimidation and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act which is the improper use of network facilities or network services,” said Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department Director Datuk Huzir Mohamed in a statement
He said 18 police reports have been received from 17 political representatives and one public individual urging an investigation to determine the authenticity or there may be irresponsible parties falsifying the audio to provoke public outrage and disharmony between political parties.
Last April, a 4 minute 17 second audio recording whos’ voice is similar to Anwar and UMNO President Ahmad Zahid Hamidi’s voice conversations went viral.
