Perak Menteri Besar and Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) Deputy President Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu has failed to secure a simple majority in a motion of confidence table by Pengkalan Baru assemblyman Datuk Abdul Manaf Hashim.
Taking place during the 14th state legislative assembly sitting, the Chenderiang assemblyman only garnered 10 votes with 48 against and one spoilt vote.
Perak’s Perikatan Nasional has a total of 32 assemblymen with UMNO holding the biggest majority in the coalition with 25 assemblymembers, Bersatu with four and PAS making up the remaining numbers at three.
Becoming the first assemblymen in Perak’s history to lose a vote of confidence, Ahmad Faizal expressed his gratitude to the House.
“I accept this with an open heart, and I think during these difficult times, a political issue should not be prolonged.
“I would like to say thank you to the people and the state assembly. Thank you, my friends, in Pakatan Harapan. I miss you guys. I would also like to thank the state executive councillors.”
Ahmad Faizal will now be expected to meet the Duli Yang Maha Mulia Tuanku Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah Ibni Almarhum Sultan Azlan to inform him of the House’s decision.
He has in his hands two options – either to vacate his post and afford the selection of the next Menteri Besar to Sultan Nazrin or advise Sultan Nazrin to dissolve the state assembly.
