Majlis Kerja Tertinggi (MKT) UMNO decided to urge the government to reconvene the parliament and the State Legislative Assembly (DUN)
According to UMNO Secretary General Datuk Seri Ahmad Mazlan, the government should not be seen trying to sterilize the practice of parliamentary democracy
“Parliament and DUN are a check and balance field among the people’s representatives, so that the government does not take any action at will to the detriment the people’s interests.” He said this to reporters after the UMNO MKT Meeting held at Menara Dato Onn yesterday
Ahmad said failure to convene a parliamentary conference will cause the confidence and trust of investors especially outside international investors where their trust will continue to erode if there is no aspect of good governance in terms of checks and balances in the government.
Ahmad stressed that the people are currently facing various difficulties and hardships involving the economy, unemployment, cost of living and rising prices of goods.
He added that the demand for parliament to convene was also voiced out as the government must have accountability for the financial aspects of the country.
“The matter needs to be implemented as it is in line with the Yang di-Pertuan Agong’s previous ruling that conferences can be held during the Proclamation of Emergency.” Ahmad said.
